The reason Zoro cannot stand to face Ensign Tashigi is because she looks exactly like Kuina, had she survived to adulthood. Tashigi hates Zoro and wishes to take away the revered swords he wields, but he cannot face her in a long match because of the strong resemblance.

Zoro had the ability to cut through rock but, far into the series, cutting through steel evaded him. Finally in his battle against Boness Daz, Zoro heeded some old advice from his instructor Koshiro and sought the 'breath' of steel. Upon finding it, be completed his goal and sliced through solid steel, another notch in his haramaki on his way to becoming the world's greatest swordsman.

Zoro is willing to give his life to protect Luffy. This is interesting considering his first meeting with Luffy where Zoro requested that Luffy disembowel himself should he stand in the way of his dream. It seems that after their time together Zoro has had a change of heart and is willing to give up his dream to make sure Luffy's becomes a reality. This was revealed in a stunning scene where he faced one of the Seven Armed Seas alone after a ferocious battle that had already left him a bloody mess. The villain was after Luffy's head under orders from the World Government but no one was left conscious or standing to deal with the opponent, except Zoro. Zoro offered his head in place of his Captain's to which the villain agreed and, through means of Devil's Fruit abilities, allowed Zoro to absorb the pain and fatigue Luffy had sustained after a tremendous battle. This would have killed a lesser man but Zoro took the attack and still managed to come out alive. Whether the villain is aware of this or not is unknown. Other crew members have made efforts or spoke of their dedication to ensure Luffy's dream, such as Usopp during the Arabasta arc, but this was the first time it was the focus of an entire chapter (485) devoted to one character.
