We have tried to tell you how wonderful this trip is, but we can't possibly say it better than the students who actually went on the STYEP.
Chris Holt Summer 2001
The trip was a success, we all survived and hey, I met some great people. My fellow ambassadors were some of the best we've had, ever. I know, I've done this before. My fellow ambassadors were kind and courteous, got along well and were interesting. We had relatively few slip ups.
My host families were a variety, and I'm not talking just about the different prefecture's customs. I stayed with a traditional working couple (with kids in college), an extended family that was quite Western, a very Western couple with a kid, a small semi- traditional urban family, and a guy who has a big screen TV and American football. Every host family had something to offer in one way or another. One host family took me to a dojo to see real martial arts. One host family brought me to see the most famous iron factory in all of Japan. One host family took me to a public bath (but i do not acknowledge entering therein).
All and all, a great trip. Any regrets? Well I wish I spoke Japanese, but thats allright. The leaders this time were a bit different than what I had had previously. They made sure we were all well and safe, and we did not offend any person.
